Today is a big day for our network startup IRL - offline stuff for online people.
It’s a network we made so Laura and I could act out our social entrepreneurship within a framework - and open up the danish web scene for more people.
But TODAY we are having our first workshop - starring the one and only Pedro Custodio who was in Copenhagen anyway for the reboot conference.
The workshop is about Community building and it is a more advanced form of workshop…
I have huge secret ambitions with IRL and I think it has a lot of potential to actually create a network of professional web enthusiasts…. It has been a good start even though we possibly hitted it off to ambitiously. So the workshop today is free =) and we’re about 15 people who will be playing with communities togethere with Pedro…, there’s still room for 2 -3 persons more if you’re interested…
I think it’s gonna rock=)

IRL (In Real Life) is a baby of mine that I have been nurturing ever since I started Toothless Tiger in 2005.
It dawned at the first CPH geekdinner in October 2005. To start out with all of IRL was a wiki, where the IRL web arrangements was presented and people could sign up for them. The tagline back then was “IRL- serving the danish blogosphere since 1895″.
In total there was made 6 geekdinners.
in november 2006 BarCampCopenhagen saw the break of day, also an IRL activity. This was followed up by the BarCampCopenhagen on the 25th of January 2008, and there will be yet another Barcamp on the 22th of November 2008.
in the fall of 2007 I teamed up with the fantastic Laura Kiralfy to get the web people of Denmark to be inspired by art, at the socalled “Art Day Out”.
as of yesterday. (june 2008) the IRL framework is relaunched. It even has it’s own webpage…
IRL is going to embrace all of the above mentioned and is basically going to be a “continous BarCamp” - existing everyday…
We call it “IRL - Offline stuff for online people” and it’s a network of cool online personalities.
The first “official” IRL events is CPH Girl Geekdinner no. 1
and Workshop: Community building - next level
Today IRL is driven by Toothless Tiger and Laura Kiralfy

This is inspired by Seth Godin’s book “meatball sunday” (I have only read 10 pages yet and look what he’s doing to me allready - I think it’s allready safe to say it’s a must read)
There has been a joke in the “internet business” for a while about “old men in new media” - Meaning people trying to grasp the internet as it looks these days -but are frankly making the wrong conclusions and asking the wrong questions.
I have a feeling that when the relationships-conversation-community marketing is really hitting the business world ( as I assume it will - otherwise Toothless Tiger wouldn’t be around) there’s gonna be a clash of dimensions (like when advertisement was first introduced).
This will mean that “old companies” will have to adjust their business model to embrace new marketing - and not the other way around. All these new types of marketing will have a less chance of succes if they are implemented in the wrong type of organisation.
So how do you make your company ready for chaotic and uncontrollable scene of relationships and conversation focused marketing ?
In the danish newspapers today it said that “young people want to work with people in the future”. I would claim that you cant get a job today without working with people.
But I think that what’s we all are gonna be working with in the future: networks, people and relations. Basically I can’t get my hands down because it’s gonna be massive fun, anarchistic and chaotic…
are you ready for this ? - is your company ? and your business model? how do you plan to adapt to it ?
